Instructions. In this activity, we are going to subtract fractions where one denominator is a multiple of the other. It is an easy exercise. Just follow the steps and answer a few questions after.
Step 1: Check the Subtraction box at the top left to begin.
Step 2: Pull the black slider to the top of the bar and note how many parts of the red circle overlap.
Step 3: Check the Lowest Common Denominator box to see the calculations.
Step 4: Pull the Answer slider to see the answer.
Step 5: Click on the reset button at the top right, and check the Subtraction box again.
Step 6: Change the numerator of the red fraction to 2, and repeat all steps 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Step 7: Change the red fraction to 5/8 and the blue fraction to 1/4, and repeat the process.
