Activity – Equivalent Fractions

Instructions: In this activity, we shall example equivalent fractions of only proper fractions. As usual, the sliders are used to create the fractions.

Step 1: Use the forward arrow on your keyboard, or click and drag the lower slider to change the value of the denominator of the fractions.

Step 2: Observe the shaded portions of the circles.

Step 3: Repeat this process until the lower slider reaches 10

Step 4: Use the upper slider to change the value of the numerator of the fractions.

Step 5: Repeat this process until the upper slider reaches 9.

Equivalent fractions represent the same shaded amount on a circle.

Equivalent fractions are fractions that simplify to the same amount.
